About Mr. Washburn

Hello Parents & Students!

My name is Joseph Washburn, and I have been teaching elective courses (Graphic Art and Design, Media, Newspaper) at Willow Springs since 2019.

Before moving back to the DFW area to be closer to family, I taught Yearbook, Newspaper, and Digital Audio in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District - just outside of Houston.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Electronic Media and Communications from Texas Tech University in 2015. Shortly after, I was certified by the state of Texas to teach Technology Applications (EC-12) and Journalism (7-12) courses.

Although most of my time at Texas Tech was spent on-campus, I spent a good chunk of my college career studying abroad in New Zealand as well. This is where I fell in love with photography and travel, which are still my favorite hobbies to this day!

You can see some of my photos from across the world here. I hope that sharing my experiences will inspire my students and their families to see as much of the world as they can.

My ultimate goal is to teach students to see through a creative lens. Whether it's graphic illustrations, writing, or photography; I hope to provide students with a skillset that allows them to solve all sorts of problems in new and exciting ways - using the tools and technology available to them.
